National Gallery

The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands, as detailed on its website, serves to:

  • promote the appreciation and practice of the visual arts and to encourage dialogue on the cultural heritage, national identity, Caymanian history, and the history of art;
  • preserve Caymanian heritage through its collections; and
  • provide access to these collections and encourage a rich exploration of culture and self, while building self-esteem and fostering creativity among all participants.

Established in 1996, the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) is an arts organization that seeks to fulfill its mission through exhibitions, artist residencies, education/outreach programmes and research projects. The NGCI operates in both a local and global arena. As part of its mission to promote and encourage the appreciation and practice of the visual arts in the Cayman Islands, the NGCI sends Caymanian art and artists abroad. The organization also hosts international artists and exhibits in the Cayman Islands.
