Pre-Conference Workshops: Professional Accreditation Opportunity

As a prelude to the 2014 Caribbean Conference 19 - 21 March, organisers have arranged pre-conference workshops on topics related to the themes of Ethics, Values, Trust and Morality. These workshops take place on 18 and 19 March, also at UCCI.

The presenters at the workshops will be drawn from among the array of professionals and academics with expertise in related areas and who are arriving for the 2014 conference.

There are six workshops, with topics outlined below, running for three hours each:

  • Ethics and Political Funding
  • Media Highlights: Competition, Ethics and Marketing
  • Postmodernity and School Leadership: Whither Ethical Practices?
  • Whistleblowing and the Workplace: Government and Private Sector Practices
  • Ethics in Engineering
  • Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation

Members of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) may claim continuing professional development credits by attending the following sessions:

  • Ethics and Political Funding
  • Whistleblowing and the Workplace
  • Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation

Cocktail Reception

The cocktail reception, scheduled on Day One, 19 March, beginning at 5 pm, at the Sir Vassel Johnson Hall, precedes the Keynote Address. This reception is open to all conference attendees as well as all interested persons in the community. Dress Smart Casual or Business Attire.



Opening Keynote Address

The Opening Keynote Speaker, will present following the Cocktail Reception. More information about the Keynote Presentation may be found here.

Plenaries are scheduled on Day Two and Three. Please see the schedule for more details.



Book Fair

A highlight of the conference will be a three-day Book Fair. Publishers of educational and cultural books are invited to exhibit on Opening Day of the conference, 19 March, from 12:00 pm to 5:30 pm, and continuing through to Day Two and Three, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, respectively.

This Book Fair offers an opportunity for publishers to network with potential clients from public/academic libraries, high schools, tertiary institutions and local book stores.

UCCI will provide storage for the books for exhibit and assist in setting up exhibition booth, the dimensions of which will be provided on registration. Exhibitors are also invited to explore our sponsorship link.



Journal of the University of the Cayman Islands (JUCCI)

The fifth annual publication of the Journal of the University of the Cayman Islands (JUCCI) will be distributed at this conference. JUCCI is a multidisciplinary Journal covering a broad spectrum of topics, foci and methodologies. Eclectic in nature, the Journal publishes ambitious essays that reflect a broad range of critical and analytic approaches. Under the supervision of an Editorial Board, JUCCI publishes manuscripts of exceptional academic merit on a variety of topics. JUCCI has emerged as a voice of the faculty, staff and students of the University College of the Cayman Islands as well as the wider community. The target audience is the wider community, sister institutions in the region and elsewhere, students and their families.



Historical and Cultural Displays

Local artists and artisans are invited to exhibit throughout the conference, for which booths will be arranged in the Sir Vassel Johnson Hall. Cayman's National Archive will be arranging a historical display relevant to the themes of the conference.
